Preface:
Aro widened his eyes at me in surprise. “You want us to kill you?” He clearly must be insane. I thought that Carlisle would have been more responsible with him.
“This has nothing to do with Carlisle.” I insisted.
“Well what does this have to do with?” Aro asked.
“My mate…Bella.” I choked out her name. “…She died.”
Aro frowned “I’m sorry for you’re loss, but we can’t kill you because of that. I wouldn’t want to upset Carlisle.”
“Carlisle will understand. He won’t blame you for my death.”
“I won’t risk the chance.” Aro exclaimed. “Jane?”
Jane was at his side at once.
“Please escort Edward out.” Aro instructed.
I narrowed my eyes at him. “If you won’t kill me, I’ll make you.”

Chapter 1:
All I can remember is pain. Not just physical pain, but mental pain too. Distress. Loss. Failure. I guess I really screwed up didn’t I? She was gone. Gone forever and it was all my fault. I must truly be a monster.
The rain thudded on the roof of our little shelter. My brothers and sister we’re cuddled beside my mother, fast asleep. I padded forward and stuck my head outside into the rain.
“Khaz! Don’t do that you’ll get soaked!” I heard my mother bark.
I stepped back. “Sorry Mother.”
“Is something bothering you sweetheart?” she asked soothingly.
I shook my head. “I’m just thinking.” I lied.
“It’s late Khaz, you should get some rest like your brothers and sister.”
I yawned. I liked being able to sleep again. Right now it sounded like a good idea too.
I padded over to her and curled up beside my litter-mates.
It took me awhile to fall asleep. I woke up to a poke in the side. “Khaz! Khaz wake up something’s wrong!”
I opened my eyes to see my brother Hige in front of me. If someone didn’t know we were brothers they never would have guessed. I had bronze fur and green eyes. Something I had most likely carried over from my previous life. Khaz, on the other hand, had white fur that stuck out at night like a black bird in the snow. He had dark eyes that reflected everything like a mirror. I could see myself in them now. Hige looked distressed.
“What’s wrong?” I asked.
“When we woke up this morning Mom wasn’t here!”
I blinked. “So? Mom always leaves to look for food.”
My sister Star padded up behind him. Her fur was white too, but it was darker then Hige’s and she had green eyes like me. “Mom left early this morning. It’s almost noon now and she’s not back!” Star’s voice was slightly panicked.
Now I under stood the panic. Mom was never gone that long. “Did anyone go with her?” I asked.
“Katsu tried to follow her with no luck.” Hige motioned to my other brother with his mussel.
Katsu and I never really got along. He was so full of himself all the time. He had jet black fur and piercing blue eyes. He liked to think of himself as their leader just because he was the oldest.
He stepped forward to talk to me, acting dominant, as usual. “I followed her sent to the edge of the block, no luck.”
“Did you check the dump?” I asked.
“I did.” Star cut in. “She wasn’t there.”
“I say we go look for her again!” Katsu declared.
Star nodded “I’m with him.”
“Guys, Mom always said to wait here while she was gone.” I answered. “I’m staying here.”
Katsu snorted “Suit yourself. Lets go guys.” He turned and stalked out of our shelter, out of the ally, and into the streets. Star followed without a word. Hige looked around torn.
“I’m staying with you.” He told me at last. “No one should be left alone.”
“Thanks.” I snorted. “But I can take care of myself.”
Hige shook his head and sat down beside me. We waited for hours, for them to return. They never did. We fell asleep at about midnight.
I woke up the next morning at about dawn. My eyelids were heavy, I wasn’t ready to wake up. Hige was fast asleep beside me, but other then that our shelter was empty.
“Hige wake up.” I prodded his side. He muttered something and put his paws over his eyes. “Hige! This is serious! I think we have to leave.”
He blinked one eye open. “Wha?”
“I don’t think its safe here anymore. I don’t think the others are coming back.”
He gave me a look of horror. “Where’d they go.”
“I don’t know.” I lied for his sake. In my head all I could think of was animal control, animal control, animal control.
“But I’ve never been off the block before. Let alone far away!” Hige complained.
I took a deep breath. “He have to go. Now.”
We left the ally after that. First we sniffed around for any trace of Star or Katsu. When we didn’t find anything we deiced to look around and figure out where to go.
At about noon my stomach began to growl. My nose immediately showed me that there was a hot dog stand across the street. I acted before I thought. I thought I heard Hige scream “What are you doing?!” before I dashed out into the traffic.
I made it about half way across the street before I realized what I was doing.
I’m gonna get myself killed! Good. Maybe I’ll stay dead this time.
I was almost to the other side when I tripped and feel. My leg smashed onto the payment. It felt like it shattered. I must have broke it. I yowled in pain and tried to get up again. I shut my eyes and prayed.
Ok, ok! I don’t want to die! God, If you’re out there, help me!
Something slammed into me. At first I thought it must have been a car. Then I realized that was impossible, I was hit from the wrong side. I opened my eyes just in time to slam into the side walk on the other side of the road. Injured, but safe and alive.
“What we’re you doing in the middle of the road? What are you suicidal?” Some snapped at me. But underneath the harsh tone I heard concern.
I looked up to see a brown dog, about the same age as me. Standing over me. Then it all clicked in. She pushed me out of the way. This dog saved my life.
“Thanks, I guess I’m an idiot, huh?”
“I guess. Now come on lets get you out of sight.”
“My brother is on the other side of the road!” I complained.
“And now I’m here!” Hige’s voice piped up. “There’s this new thing called ‘Looking both ways’ you should try it next time.”
“Thanks.” I snorted.
Aro widened his eyes at me in surprise. “You want us to kill you?” He clearly must be insane. I thought that Carlisle would have been more responsible with him.
