The wind whisted outside the den and snow was falling heavily. Aang shuttered at the cold and cuddled closer to his sleeping cubs. Tarrow coughed sickly waking his sister Chepi with a start. She whined softly and snuggled closer to into her fathers fur. "Daddy I'm cold." she cried. Her brother coughed again. Sliently Aang was cursing Katara for putting him in this position. She had pureposly given him the two weaker cubs of the litter. It angered him greatly that she would dare choose between her children like that. "It's ok Chepi, it will get warmer in the morning." he mummured softly to her. Tarrow had broken into a coughing fit. Panicked, Aang sat up and leaned over to look at his son. Tarrow had been terribly sick lately and Aang worried he won't surive the harsh winter. "Daddy whats wrong with Tarrow?" Chepi asked weakly. "Tarrow, Tarrow wake up." Aang murmmered Tarrow opened his eyes slowly. "I was wake Dad." Aang licked his head softly. Suddenly a voice came from outside. "Come on, this way! Keep going!" a male voice was calling "It's snowing too hard!" a softer higher voice cried. "Please can we stop?" another begged. Aang flicked his ears at the sound. "You two stay here." he told his children. "I'll be right back." Aang exited the den and looked around. It was snowing like there was no tomorrow and he was sure it it got any colder he would freeze right there. He spotted three shapes coming into view. With surprise he reconised on of them. "Zuko?"

*Cliffhanger* Muahaha. --- "I win!" "No way! My nose was at least a wing's length ahead of yours," Kal argued, determined not to lose. "Was not," Jasmine insisted. "Was too!" "Was not!" "Was too! Tell her, mommy." Sokka cringed at his son's last word: mommy. He looked to his left where Suki had her nose buried in his fur. She poked her head out to reply. "I think...it was a tie," she said, always wanting to keep things fair. The two cubs groaned. "Re-match?" Jasmine suggested, her eyes twinkling in delight of another chance to challenge her brother to a race. "You're on!" Kal exclaimed. "Not today, guys," Sokka interrupted. "It's freezing out here, and the snow's getting thicker. Let's get inside." Two puffs of steam appeared in the air as the siblings sighed and reluctantly made their way into the cave. Sokka stood up and went in after them, Suki leaning against his side. The way she always had herself draped all over him annoyed Sokka a bit. What I would give for a girl who holds herself up, he thought, remembering...

-More Cliffyness-
"I call being pack leader!" "Thats no fair Kotori, you're always pack leader!" "Well then you should have called it first!" Mai opened one of her eyes to wacth the pups as they played. Kotori had taken postion on a tree stump and was giving orders to their pretend pack. This was the pups' favorite game. "Can I be leader next time?" Sparrow asked flicking his gray ears. "Next time." Kotori promised. "Now pack, we must hunt!" He lept off the rock and Sparrow, Maya, and Tasha dashed after him. Mai sighed and looked over at her friend Toph for a brief moment. Toph was fast alseep curled in a ball a few paces away. Mai wasn't surpised by this. It was hard being a single parent, she would know, but Toph was blind. Watching Toph's pups while she took a power nap was her afternoon activity. Mai didn't mind however though, because it gave her pups someone to play with. Mai shuddered with the cold. Looking up she saw it had started to snow. Toph had waken up. "It's snowing." Mai informed her. Toph gave a nod. "Come on guys!" she called to her pups. "We have to get back before this picks up." "Awww!" Tasha whined. "See you tommorow!" Maya barked. "Bye Sparrow!" Kotori called "Bye!" he barked. Tasha and Sparrow turned and followed their mother through the snow.

*Ends cliffiness* --- Bounding through heaps upon heaps of snow, Zuko caught a strange scent. It was tinged vaugely with friendliness and familiarity. Then he heard a voice, and immediately recognized it. "Zuko... hey, Zuko! Over here!" "Aang?" he muttered in disbelief, his head cocked to one side in curiosity. How strange it was that he'd cross paths with his old friend in such a state as this. "Come on, guys," he said to his cubs, shaking off his moment of surprise. "Who is that?" Amber asked his sister. Zuko, knowing how painfully quiet she was, answered for her. "My old friend Aang...you won't remember him. Your wings had only just started growing when you saw him last." "When mom was with us?" Serena asked, speaking for the first time. "Yes," he said icily, gritting his teeth. "When mom was with us." "Good to see you again, buddy!" Aang interrupted cheerfully. He took a few steps out to touch noses with Zuko. "You too," he answered, stretching forward. He hasn't changed a bit."You want to come inside? It's warm. Well, warm er." Before Zuko could politely decline the invitation, Amber interrupted. "Yes, I'm freezing my wings off out here!" Aang chuckled, stepping inside and to the right a bit to let them in.

Chepi looked up as someone entered the den. Not reconizeing him, she moved protectivly in front of her brother. However, he seemed to have no intenstion of hurting Tarrow. "Hi!" he greated her "Err, Hi." Chepi smelled more wolves and looked up as her father entered with two others. She blinked in confusion. "Daddy? Who are they?" Her father padded over and sat down beside her. "This is Zuko." He explained flicking his tail to the largest wolf. "Zuko you remember Chepi right?" Zuko nodded. "She's grown alot, last I saw her she hadn't even opened her eyes." "I'm Amber!" The first one introduced himself. "And this is my sister Serena." "Nice to meet you." Chepi mummured polietly. "Who's that?" Amber asked pointing his mussle at Tarrow. Tarrow sat up quickly. He coughed before answering. "I'm Tarrow." He coughed again. "Whoa! Is he ok?" Amber asked with a start. Aang blinked in concern. "He's really sick." He wrapped his tail around his son and licked him between the ears. "So what were you guys doing out on a night like this?" Aang asked curiously.

Serena had no interest in this conversation, but paid attention anyway. She always had hope that if her father were talking to another adult wolf, her mother might end up in the conversation. Zuko never talked about her. "Well there's this ginormous cave where we were gonna - gmphh!" Serena stifled a laugh as her father stuffed his tail into Amber's mouth. The big chatterbox had it coming anyway. "Amber, Serena, why don't you go visit with Chepi and Tarrow? You guys can play or something. Aang and I need to talk," Zuko explained. While Amber huffed and went over to the other cubs, Serena padded wordlessly - and unnoticed - over to a shadowed corner of the den. She still wanted to listen. "We were driven out of our old home by bears," her father started. That was one of the few things she liked about him: he got right to the point. As Aang's eyes widened, Zuko continued. "A while ago, I heard about this large cave a short journey away. It's surrounded by tons of resources; water, prey, and herbs for healing." He cast a quick glance at Tarrow. "I figure, since we have nowhere else to go, it'd be a safe pace for them. And now that I see your condition...would you like to come with us?" Serena wasn't surprised by her father's offer. Though he seemed stingy at first, he really was kind. "I'll talk to them," Aang said, after a long moment of looking thoughtful. He called his cubs over and started explaining. "Sheesh, that Chepi is real protective. I couldn't get anywhere near Tarrow." Amber's voice, hushed with irritation, was suddenly coming from right beside Serena. She looked at him, not saying anything, then turned her attention back to the adults. "We'll go with you," she just caught Aang saying. "Tarrow needs help soon. I don't want his cough to get worse." Zuko nodded once. "Tonight we can rest. We'll leave first thing in the morning." "Thanks, Zuko."

"Mommy! Mommy, wake up please!" Katara opened her eyes to see her daughter Autumn standing in front of her, brown eyes sparking. Katara wasn't sure where she got her eyes from, she had decided it came from Aang's side of the family, even though Aang had gray eyes. Katara snorted at the tought of him. "What?" Autumn wagged her tail excitedly. "You promised me and Kya you'd give us flying lessons!" She flapped her wings up and down. Oh yeah. Katara's other daughter padded up to sit next to her sister. "We've been waiting all morning." "Right," Katara replyed struggling the sleepyness away. "Come on then." As Katara exicited the den where they lived, she felt a shiver go down her spine. It was cold to today. Autumn and Kya came bouncing out of the den and into the snow. Katara smiled softly at their eagerness. "Where are we going to fly to Mommy?" Autumn asked. "Can we fly to the canyon? Katara shook her head. "No you guys are first time flyers, thats to far, we'll go to the river." "Ok!" Kya barked happily. Katara beamed. Her daugther shared the same love of water as she did. "Ok, I've seen you guys come off the ground when you were playing before, so I know you can do it." Katara leapt off the ground and flapped her wings, taking flight. Autumn followed her with out hesitating. She flapped her wings rapidly, and for a second it seemed as if she wouldn't go anywhere. "Come on Autumn you can do it." Katara encourged her softly. At last Autumn seemed to shoot up and was flapping easily next to her mother. "I did it!" she cried delightly. She began flipping and spinning through the air. "Come on Kya! It's easy." Kya hesitated before leaping to join them, Kya took to the air a bit faster then her sister. "Great job." Katara was pleased with her children. "Can we go to the river now?" Kya pleaded. "Sure, come on sweetie." Katara called to Autumn. The flight to the river was slient. The only thing spoken was. "Kya, stop putting so much wait on your left side, it's slowing you down." When they got to the river however, Katara found a pleasnt surprise.

"Isn't that Katara?" Suki whispered to her mate. Sokka narrowed his eyes against the snow. "Yeah, I think it is." Suddenly his eyes began to sparkle. He called her name, though it was useless. She had been staring in his direction the entire time. Suki started forward with her family, a little nervous. Though they were polite to each other, her and Sokka's sister had never really gotten along well. 'Twas the age-old battle of the mate and the mate's in-laws. "Sokka!" Katara exclaimed, running towards him, her cubs on her heels. When they reached each other, she greeted him with a friendly touching of her muzzle to his. Then she stepped back and looked to Sokka's left, giving Suki only a quiet, detatched, "Hello," with the slightest hint of iciness in her voice. Suki nodded once, still uncomfortable. "What're you doing out here?" Katara asked, turning her attention completely to Sokka. "We were on our way to a cave," he started, then continued on about all its resources. His sister listened, purely fascinated and not making a sound until he finished. "That's incredible," she breathed. Then she felt something furry shift beside her. "Oh! I'm sorry, you remember my cubs, Sokka." "Nice to see you again, Autumn, Kya," he said, a smile growing on his lips. "They look great, 'Tara." "Thank you. As do Kal and Jasmine." "Mommy, are we going to the cave?" Kya asked suddenly, her voice full of wonder. Suki held in a groan. It would be extremely awkward if they went along. "Well, I-" "Please?" Autumn interrupted, her tail now wagging. Katara sighed but was still smiling. "What do you think, Sokka? Could we come along?" "Of course. It may be a good idea, too. Their noses are a little drippy," he joked, refferring to Kya and Autumn. The cubs responded to this by pouncing on him playfully, happy to see their uncle again after all this time.
